What becomes a dick.

A few days back, Warren Ellis actually put up something useful on his blog instead of the usual pandering and gobbledygook crap that passes for intelligent discourse there.

Basically. someone queried Ellis about the process of writing and he had something interesting to offer up, words about the process that had merit. It is the kind of thing I’d like to see more of but unfortunately some writers are akin to Zeus and treat people who are interested in the process as if they are Prometheus.

Now, I’ve more or less stopped reading Ellis’ blog. He posts quite a bit on the blog but much of it is just crap, air sandwich, filler. It’s just not interesting at all and mainly what he does is repost or link to articles that have caught his interest. All fine and good but I don’t go to Ellis’ blog to see what he reads, I want to know how he works, how he thinks, what he does, the way he approaches problems and overcomes them.

I posted a one line comment that was innocuous at best and promptly got a snide reply from his highness.

It was truly a Spicoli moment with Ellis in the role of Mr. Hand.

So the question for today’s class is this: Is there ever a moment when someone is so full of their oats that it warrants them totally abandoning manners?

Mind you, I can be fairly brutal as things go but generally I don’t stomp on people. Maybe it was one too many Red Bulls?
